The day had finally dawned, a Monday like no other, yet within the confines of Moi Girls High School, it carried a weight of anticipation and excitement. As the sun stretched its golden fingers over the horizon, excited students streamed in with eager smiles and backpacks filled with adventure. Laughter echoed through the air as old friends reunited and new friendships were birthed! It was going to be a promising and unforgettable journey ahead.

We were expecting close to four hundred sponsored children in high school attending the camp. They were coming from different regions of the country, all gathering in the capital Nairobi. The youth were ecstatic, some of them had never been to the ‘City under the sun’ as many call it. The learners wanted to see the skyscrapers and towering buildings, the clean streets chocked with traffic as far as their eyes could see and the colorful but loud minibuses popularly known as ‘Matatus’ that serve as the primary mode of public transportation.

One by one they were registered, oriented and assigned their rooms for the five nights they were going to be in the camp. Excited chatter and laughter filled their rooms that night after dinner, no one wanted to retire to bed. Conversations, singing and dancing was all one could hear from a distance. It was finally quiet; the day was to start early with praise and worship by crack of dawn. They all showed up for the amazing experience of worshipping the Lord, praising his name and giving him glory!
The camp program was jam-packed, leaving no room to catch a breath amidst the excitement! But we made sure there was time for fun and play too! The learners had a chance to visit the National Assembly! And what was so cool about this was that there was a proceeding that day! They had a chance to spot one or two of their favorite Member of Parliament. Indeed, it was a day etched in memory, one that could never be forgotten!

The theme for the camp was ‘Wise beginning’ pulled out from Proverb 9: 10 which says “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” The learners had a good chance to interact with various speakers and counselors on the various topics they were spearheading. They sat still to listen in since most of the topics were tailored-made for their age bracket. They included but not limited to; youth and ministry, adolescence challenges, relationships, drug abuse, sexuality, social media and mental health, career choice guidance.

As the camp was coming to a close, the youth had maximized the opportunity that the organization had given them to gain an unforgettable experience! The ones we had a chance to interview were all extremely grateful to the whole fraternity of ICCM for giving them such an incredible chance to go through the program. They were really hopeful that this can be done annually since it impacted their lives in ways they could have never imagined! The icing on the cake was when close to a hundred students gave their life to Christ! This was wholesome!
